Colbert's Publicity Stunt In SC Is Over

Somebody working with Comedy Central's faux right wing commentator Stephen Colbert must be a genius. In a terrific publicity stunt that just happened to coincide with release of Colbert's new book, he announced that he would run for President as a "favorite son" candidate in both the Democratic and Republican primaries in his (and the Curmudgeon's) native state of South Carolina.

The announcement got all kinds of press.

Now, Colbert says he's not running after all. The $35,000 filing fee to run as a Republican was too steep (hey, FREE publicity is one thing, but 35 grand, man that's a lot of books) and the state Democratic Committee has rejected him as a candidate on the grounds that he is not serious. (Note: the vote was 13-3, which suggests three members of SC state Democratic Committee need to have their heads examined.)

And now Colbert is getting yet another round of press. Genius!

XC,

I think your hostitlity might be that your chosen candidate, Richardson, was actually polling BELOW Colbert, a fake candidate. If you can't beat the candidate from Comedy Central, you should be disqualified.

Might I suggest that those 3 who voted for inclusion (you remember inclusion, a democratic ideal) have their heads better alligned than someone who would allow a fringe candidate like Richardson to continue...
