Dr. Jeff Masters, at Weather Underground, has a terrific--if lengthy--piece comparing today's global warming deniers (or "skeptics") to the "scientists" funded by yesteryear's tobacco industry to contest the causal connection between smoking and disease. It's worth a read on a slow day before Thanksgiving:

Before digging in your heels too deeply, you might want to consider that it could be the other way around, that it is the IPCC which should be cast in the role of the Tobacco Industry.
That there has been fraud on the part of Mann & Jones is undeniable. Whether they were overzealous in defense of their Hockey Stick or outright liars is yet to be determined, but there is enough evidence to take serious skeptics like McIntyre seriously.
